Dear Prime Timers and Facebook Friends,
We wish to take a few minutes of your time to explain how we arrived at the decision to suspend our Facebook page. Several years back, we determined how valuable it was to the organization and its future to have a Facebook page. We still stand behind that vision.
When we received our 501(c)3 status in 2014 a set of rules came with it. One is that we not promote political and religious agendas. In the past months we have noted postings by members of this nature. On several occasions we have asked our monitors (one who is a Worldwide Board member) to make sure these postings did not appear. Somehow the postings got by them and the postings continued to appear.
A committee of members has worked hard since 2004 to receive that status. Its existence is very precious to us, as it is to all of our chapters. At our annual board meeting on Tuesday, May 3 in Las Vegas our board unanimously voted to suspend the Facebook page. This action was not directed at any one person but, rather, an attempt not to jeopardize our 501(c)3 status. If such material comes to the attention of the IRS, that tax-exempt status could be revoked.
Please note: we use the word 'suspend' because it was and is our full intention to get a better handle on the monitoring of the revised site in the future and get it up and running as soon as we can. We look forward to a long and happy future with all of our Facebook friends.
