William James Smith was born July 3, 1930 in Rush Springs, OK and died January 11, 2009. Jim graduated from High School in Marlow, OK. After high school he joined the US Army. Upon his return he married Joyce, and fathered one son Kevin Charles Smith. Jim attended Kansas State College at Pittsburg, KS, where he received both a BA and MA degree in English. After his bachelors degree, started working for Tulsa Jr. High School as an English Teacher. Three years later, they asked him to go into Administration. In 1970 he was recruited by Ortega Jr. High School in Pacifica CA to be their Principal. He served in that capacity from 1970 to 1985, when he retired. Jim Smith outlived three partners: Bobby, Jim and Robert were partners for many years in CA and in 1985 they moved to Oklahoma. Robert died in 1992. In 1997, he met Gene Steiger. Gene passed away February 2006. Jim met Steven Dubois at Labor Day Weekend 2006, and they were together from that time on until his death January 11, 2009. Jim & Steven had a ring commitment ceremony August 25, 2007. Jim Smith asked that donations in his memory be made to Tulsa Prime Timers.

Hello Woody,
I can't even begin to describe how honored I feel to have received a personal message from you. Your video presentation really touched my heart as I could see the love in those expressive eyes of yours.
On December 26, 2011 I lost my soul mate. He was 90 years old, just a couple of months shy of his 91st birthday. 2011 was a very bad year for him as he was in and out of the hospital 4 times with pneumonia, lung and kidney problems. A couple of times he left the hospital and went into a nursing home for physical rehabilitation for a few weeks to get stronger so he could come home. I was there for him each and every day, and after spending the day with him I was pretty ragged out to say the least and told him I had to go home to get some rest. Each time he would beg me to stay, and I would explain to him that he had the nurses, doctor's and nurse's aids to help him during the night and he was in the best place to be if he needed help. His response was always the same, "yea, but it's not you." As you can detect we were devoted to each other and I know he would have done the same for me if the tables were turned. We were together for 22 years and the love continued to grow stronger with each passing day, especially when he became so dependent on me, and wasn't satisfied with anyone else in my absence, but I think I did everything humanly possible to keep his spirits up and tried my best to keep him motivated during his physical rehabilitation.
