As the biennial Prime Timers Worldwide Convention approaches, the Board of Directors and I want to encourage your chapter to participate in-person. The host chapter, Chicago Prime Timers, has put together a great program including the Keynote Address, Workshops, Buffet, Halloween Masquerade Ball, Gala Banquet on the closing night, Dinner Cruise on Lake Michigan (optional), and the Hospitality Room. There will the Business Meeting of the chapter representatives and the Board as well as board meetings to conduct during the formal part of the convention, but there will be time available to see and enjoy Chicago.

Information on the program, registration, and hotel is available at the special convention website, www.chicagoprimetimers.org/convention

Or, just go to the PTWW website at www.primetimersww.com then click on the links to the convention website.

The convention is just a bit more than two months away. You are encouraged to publicize the event to your chapter members at meetings, in your newsletter, and any other creative ways that you use. Some chapters are planning to use a portion of the funds received by the chapter as a beneficiary of the Woody Baldwin Estate to help fund participation by a representative from your chapter. The Chapter President is the logical representative, but another officer or chapter member can be given the proxy for your chapter to vote on important items at the Business Meeting.

I look forward to seeing you in Chicago.

I've just returned from Austin, Texas where I had the honor of celebrating the glorious life of our founder, Woody Baldwin. It was everything Woody would have wanted: a true celebration in the spirit he requested and a meeting of so many wonderful people. I learned so much more about Woody's colorful life and career.

Since Woody's passing, I've received many e-mails asking how members and chapters can make donations in Woody's memory. I'll address that shortly

Since the massacre in Orlando I have also been asked if members and chapters can make donations to help the families of those who lost their lives at the Pulse nightclub. One has to be careful with donations because the money does not always end up at its target. We're being careful. I've also been asked if Worldwide will be making a donation.

At our recent board meeting we addressed these two issues and decided to put out this communication as soon as we can. In November of 2007 the past President and then current President of our Minneapolis--St. Paul chapter proposed a fund made up of donations to allow our organization or develop and work to start new chapters. In addition the fund would support the work needed to support existing chapters. They wrote a letter to existing chapters and donations were made at that time. Over the years some donations continue to be received. It continues its work with chapters. An upcoming Prime Times newsletter will be devoted to the fund.

To forever preserve his name and honor our founder we named this The Woody Baldwin Chapters Fund. The board feels that this fund would be an ideal place for donations. Because of our 501(c)(3)status the donations are tax deductable.

When you make your donations please designate 'in memory of Woody Baldwin' or 'Orlando Massacre Survivors'. The money designated for Orlando will be made once we have verified a trustworthy organization and in the name of Prime Timers Worldwide. Any funds not designated will reside along with those designated in memory of Woody Baldwin, for that fund.

Donations should be made out to:

Prime Timers Worldwide

Thank you for your participation.

In 2009 in Toronto in a speech at the convention I spoke of Gay men as survivors. Now, with this all too recent tragedy we have survived, yet, one more horrific world event. Some of us ask ourselves 'how much more can we endure?' The answer is that we need to continue to stand strong and to stand together as brothers, as gay men and as Americans to face whatever it is the world has in store for us in the future. We must stand strong and, in the end, we will win the war of intolerance. Victory does not always come easily nor does it come without a struggle nor without pain.

We have survived many wars, many personal losses and we will continue to struggle for equality with our fellow man. We share this world with radical people whose ideals, lives and minds do not function within a democracy; they feel their likes and dislikes should dictate that the rest of the world follow their ways. They only know violence and death as a way of expressing ideals. We act in reasonable and democratic ways. We are embroiled in an election race but we feel confident that however it comes out we will stand as a democracy and as Americans.

When you sit down to dinner tonight or tomorrow night stop for a moment and sit in silence and remembrance of our recently fallen heroes. Continue to honor, love and appreciate each other as loving friends and fellow survivors and know in your heart that we are all in this together.
