Columbia, SC Prime Timers was founded on January 26, 2014. Our chapter is a mere 7 months old, but we have achieved much in this short period of time. On the 4th Sunday of each month we have our Monthly Membership Meeting (MMM) in the Fellowship Hall of the very welcoming Reformation Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC. Our MMM is the focal point of our chapters' activities and it usually consists of a potluck supplemented by an interesting guest speaker, or Bingo. For our June MMM we had a Talent Show which was a lot of fun. Our Board meets on the 2nd Monday of each month for our planning and business meeting. Once a month we have a dinner night out on a Saturday at a local restaurant suggested by our members. Regular events which appear on our calendar are: Olive Garden Lunch once a month, Mexican Tuesday Nights twice a month, and Happy Hour at a local Tapas Bar and Cocktail Lounge once a month. A highlight of the year so far for our chapter was the spaghetti dinner fundraiser we arranged to help raise funds for the South Carolina Aids Benefit Foundation. We managed to raise over $1100 which was a great achievement! A big thanks to our organizers, volunteers and sponsors for making the fundraiser a success. Our first annual picnic was held at the beautiful Dreher Island State Park located on Lake Murray, SC. On September 20, 2014 our chapter will be participating in the 25th annual SC Pride event held on Main Street, in Columbia, SC. We will have a booth and will participate in the parade. Currently our membership stands at 63, and slowly more people are finding out about our chapter through our website and by word of mouth. Our monthly newsletter highlights last month's events and includes pictures, favorite recipes, member submissions and a listing of upcoming events. "Buddies Helping Buddies" is a committee that keeps in contact with our members who are ill, in hospital or grieving a loss, by sending cards, emails, calling, visiting or assisting with basic chores. Our leadership and event coordinators have worked diligently over the past 7 months to bring our chapter to where it is today.
