Prime Timers Central Virginia Dine with Area Police!

Vice president Jim Rhodes invited members of the City of Richmond, Chesterfield County and Henrico County Police to meet and dine with us at our monthly General Meeting on Sunday, March 1.  It was our famous “Pot Luck”meeting,also.. They accepted!  To many of us this was certainly an historic occasion.  Just the idea of sitting down with police and talking and eating dinner was a frightening thought.

Within 48 hours of being sworn in as the City of Richmond’s newly appointed police chief Alfred Durham joined us!   But once the meeting was under way, reps from Richmond, Henrico, and Chesterfield talked to us and answered questions from Prime Timers. They joined us for Pot Luck. The Officers sat at tables with the members!  The meeting and pot luck dinner went off without a hitch.

“They were so cool,” said Rhodes. “Some of the officers even brought their own covered dishes to the dinner. It surprised us to no end.”  Rhodes said after the meeting and dinner was over, the officers and the chief stayed and continued to answer questions and have conversations.  “In Richmond, I could never imagine this happening,” he said.

“Here it is, a Sunday afternoon,” said Durham weeks after the Prime Timers event. “I could be home with my family and friends, but I’m here ‘cause it’s important to me…. I had a wonderful time, and I’ll tell you, they can cook.”
